Math/ Algebra 2

This is a picture of logarithms, I really struggled with learning them because they were really confusing for me, I didn’t understand how the exponents switched around like that. However, after practice and doing my comp book review I came to be fairly good at solving logarithms. The thing that really helped me master logarithms was going slowly step by step until I had the concepts drilled into my head. Logarithms were the hardest thing I learned all year and I overcame them. Over all I’m really glad I understand logarithms now.

This is the first composition book review I did. I am really proud of this work because it was a big stepping stone in my sophomore year for math. This comp book review knocked some sense into me and told me that I was going to have to work hard to succeed in math. I was so stressed about this comp book review and thought I wasn’t going to get a good grade, but after wards when I found out I got a 14 out of 15 I was really proud that I learned all the things we needed to learn and that I worked so hard. In this comp book review we learned about inequalities, something I was supposed to learn in Algebra one, instead I learned it this year. I learned a lot about inequalities and really applied that knowledge with the review, it helped me a lot. In conclusion I am really proud of my first comp book review.

Jimme’s Fraction Quest
This project is based around fractions. It is a story board about a boy named Jimme who goes on a quest and retrieves brownies for his grandma. Throughout this quest, Jimme learns how to add, subtract, multiply and divide fractions all visually laid out using brownies. The hardest part of this project was trying to find a way to visually display multiplying and dividing fractions. In the beginning of the story Jimme falls gets attacked and loses his brownies, he must collect them and add the broken pieces and add them together; this is where he learns how to add fractions. Next he falls into a hole and loses his fractions of brownies, thus learning to subtract. Finally Jimme encounters two fraction nymphs, one challenging him to multiply the other challenging him to divide. In the end Jimme gets to his grandmother’s house and delivers the brownies, grateful for his new fraction skills. This project was intended to teach fraction addition, subtraction, multiplication and division.
I really connected to this project because I want to teach and fractions have always been really hard for me. It was only this year that I really mastered the use of fractions in big equations. My partner and I chose to teach fractions also because they are really important. Fractions are a huge building block on your way to mastering math concepts. I feel like in this project I achieved my goal to visually show and teach fractions. Over all this project was really challenging but I also learned a lot.

Frieght Delivery Problem:
A pilot makes a living delivering frieght. She delivers boxs of calcultors for Nerdy Calculator Company and boxes of doughnuts for her client Dippin Doughnuts company. Find the combination of boxes of calculators and boxes of doughnuts that will maximize the pilots profit. What is the maximum profit?

Variables:
calculators=x
doughnuts=y
                       weight      space    money
Calculators        40lbs       1            3
Doughnuts         50lbs       2            4
max                  1100lbs   60           ?

Constraints:                                            Objective function:
y is greater then or equal to x                 max profit= 3x+4y
1100 " " " " 40x+50y
60 " " " " " " 2x+3y

Points:
(0,0) (0,20) (12,12)             If you have 12 doughnut boxes and
12 calculator boxes you will have the
3x+4y=                                max profit which is 84.

Book Publishing- Advanced Problem:

A local book company reads for publiction two types of books, romances and weserns. Find the combination of romance and westerns the book company can read while minimizing their cost. What is the combination of romances and westerns that yeilds the maximum cost to the book company?

Variables:
romance novels=x
western novels=y

                    review per month              cost
romance   less then or equal to 20          150
western       " " " " " " " " " " " "  16          180
max           " " " " " " ""  "  " " "  28             ?

Constraints:                                              Objective function:
x is less than or eqaul to 20                       150x+180y=cost
y is less than or equal to 16
x+y is less than or equal to 28
y is less than or equal to 2x-8
x+5y is greater than 25
5x+9y is greater than or equal to 90

Points and Cost:
150x+180y                                    To minimize cost you need to review 20 (12,16)                  4680 - max                   romance novels and 1 western.
